Happy Independence Day:
What Will You Declare

Hi Reader

Today, in the United States, we pause to honor and celebrate Independence Day.

As we ponder the ideals of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” consider if maybe today is a great time for you to declare your independence.

On this day in 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. This document officially severed the ties between the American Colonies and Britain. At stake were independence and the right to self-govern.

The founding fathers wrote in the Declaration of Independence that all people should have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

As we celebrate the Fourth of July and enjoy our hotdogs, apple pie, and fireworks, it’s also important for us to reflect on the opportunities afforded us by that declaration made two hundred and forty-eight years ago.

We should be grateful for our past and those who helped shape what we have today.

We, as individuals, should take responsibility to ensure everyone has the freedoms the founding fathers called for.

We should strive to foster unity in our communities, our country, and across the world. Unity is where we find strength and progress.

These are tense times. And I can’t help but think we’ve taken the sacrifices of those who have come before us for granted, that we point the finger of blame instead of taking responsibility and that we are so focused on “us versus them” that we forget that we’re one.

So, as we celebrate the Holiday, take some time to:

  • Be grateful
  • Understand the role we can play
  • Foster unity

And maybe it’s time to write your own Declaration of Independence.

What is holding you back that you need to declare your independence from?

What is getting in the way of living the life you know you were destined to lead?

What is getting in the way of you pursuing your happiness?

Today might be a great day to take a stand and play a bigger game.
